FriendCaller iPhone apps approved with 3G VoIP calls. Mobile VoIP freedom, at last?

VoIP over 3G

Apple Inc. made up on its promise to open dialing VoIP calls over 3G networks. This means that you can now use FriendCaller on your iPhone or iPod Touch wherever you are. Our FriendCaller 3 and FriendCaller 3 Pro apps have been now approved with 3G support. Now the ball is in the court of operators and service providers, it’s their choice allowing their customers mobile freedom of communication or going back to the old games of blocking VoIP over mobile networks. Some operators still see free and low cost phone calls over VoIP as a threat, they still do not realize that a Smart Phone like the iPhone and Androids are the biggest opportunity to move mobile communication and network utilization to the next level.

Amazingly (or maybe not considering the legacy of these operators) the “iPhone operators” and the exclusive Apple iPhone partners are the one who most profited from the iPhone, and these are the ones who have been placing hurdles for VoIP communication. Suddenly their billions of worth of UMTS infrastructure was utilized, and the iPhone was the first device really to make use of this infrastructure and the multi billion UMTS license cost was auctioned. Now we see AT&T trying to block SIP ports and 3G from pay-as-you-go cards and the German Telekom also operates a centre nearby our office, where they are trying to find ways to control VoIP traffic.

That much said, now we claim that we do not only whisper over 3G, but we can talk!
